Hay Day review
The description of Hay Day
We’ve seen a lot of farm simulation games come along with nothing new to offer. Hay Day is no different. The usual: plant something, wait for it to grow in real time, then harvest it. Build barns, silos, sell your wares, unlock achievements and become the ultimate farmer.
Essence of Hay Day - 4/5
Hay Day is all about planting and growing your farm. You’ll raise the entire shebang of animals including horses, sheep, cows, and chicken. You’ll have to juggle between various tasks all happening at the same time, such as building and harvesting simultaneously. You can’t harvest if you don’t have a barn to keep your produce; therefore, there is an element of strategy involved. You can also sell your wares to people who visit your farm. Tasks require that you wait in real time before you accomplish them. You can speed up some of the tasks by purchasing diamonds which cost money. However, playing without in-app purchases is an option.
Graphics and Audio - 4/5
For a farm sim game, Hay Day packs a lot of bright colors and details that are well contrasted. The game is played from an isometric perspective, and you can pan and zoom in to specific things. The presentation has been well optimized for touchscreens which require finger movement. There are no glitches, and all the visuals feel fluid and in sync with the control system.
Controls - 4/5
The controls are a mixture of on-screen prompts, tapping and dragging, all of which is well showcased with a tutorial at the start. The system is intuitive and uses gestures on your touchscreen well to make the entire process intuitive. The controls are intuitive and unobtrusive, meaning you won’t be clamoring for on-screen space with the controls or menus. Simply tap on an item and swipe or drag your finger across the desired portion of the screen.
Immersion - 4/5
Hay Day is a fun sim game. You could spend hours playing it, although the tutorial is a bit drawn out. Still, the game doesn’t introduce anything unique to its genre. The game has lots of detail, including a commerce aspect where you can trade with friends. Farm sim games often have very little new material to offer, and Hay Day suffers from the same fate. However, it does so in a way that is fun and enjoyable.
- Provides a comprehensive tutorial when you start the game;
- Great visuals and upbeat soundtrack.
- Limited and repetitive content, similar to other farm sim games.
